across the country, with Savannah.
Well, she met us in Houston, TX and drove the second half with me. It was actually really fun. (I wouldn't do it again soon, but it was fun once.) We took the Southern route from Richmond to Atlanta, then
through Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana to New Orleans, then to Houston. We stayed with the Warners (my brother and his family) in Houston for the Memorial Day weekend and had a blast seeing what Hu-ville has to offer. Thanks guys!! Then we drove the ENTIRE way across Texas to El Paso, with a pit stop in San Antonio to see the Alamo.

I have always wanted to see the Alamo,
ever since I saw Pee Wee's Big Adventure. I had to see it for myself, but there really is NO basement in the Alamo, and Pee Wee's bike was no where to be found. HOWEVER, the stars at night really are big and bright, as we saw them all the way in to El Paso. Nice.
From El Paso we waved to the little hovels on the Mexican side of the border and got a quick reminder of why Mexicans would rather live in the US, then made the final leg of our journey to Phoenix.

We covered a whopping 2,600 miles, and it was expensive but FUN. This sign was taped to the pump at a gas station in the middle of Nowhere, TX. It reads:
PREPAYMENT REQUIRED: The US Oil industry has quit supplying us with petroleum products. We are now forced to dispense liquid gold from these pumps. The currency in your pocketbook says, "In God we trust." But all others must prepay.
Funny enough to take a picture, but only in a very bitter way.
