In high school my friends and I regularly played a game called, "Shoot me if..."
"Shoot me if I ever wear socks with t-vas."
"Shoot me if I ever wear a side pony tail again."
"Shoot me if I ever regularly use the term y'all."
"Shoot me if I ever peg my jeans."
Over the past 15 or so years since the inception of "shoot me if..." I have had to eat a few of those, and I know that some of my friends have too.
One "shoot me if..." that was a mainstay for us all was, "shoot me if I ever drive a mini-van." Now keep in mind that when us silly girls were playing this game, these were the early years of the Dodge/Plymouth Caravans, which were decidedly uncool in every way. Who would have foreseen the absolutely breathtaking Odyssey or Sienna of today? I mean, really; doors that automatically shut at the push of a button, and windows as large as doors rolling all the way down instead of that stupid pop-out thing that never let any air in? Let's all be honest, the mini-van has come a long way since 1995. While I haven't taken the mini-plunge myself, I can't blame those closest to me for doing it. I may make it there myself some day.
I turned 29 last week. One last little gasp of a year before the big 3-0. 29 will mark the close of a big chapter in my life--the 20's. Growing up I pictured myself hitting 30 with at least 3 kids, living through the block from my parents, being involved in PTA, and living a royally lovely suburban life. While that picture isn't quite what my life at 30 will turn out to be, I wouldn't trade it, and I'm proud of what my first 29 have been. Here's to 30 more great ones, with just as many twists and turns. Can't wait to see where it takes me.
I've been on a camera strike. It is far too hot to take pictures. Somehow I really believe that. I'll try to be better.
This is all I have:
We built a fort in the living room. Her hair was awesome. Remind you of someone Grace?

Oh man Kath--those were good days--we had it ALL figured out huh?! I was just thinking about us driving those minivans around on weekend nights when I saw some crazy kids doing a Chinese Fire Drill in front of us the other night. In the midst of one of those, I once slipped and hit my head right on the road on an icy winter night and then hopped right back into the mini-van (maybe it was Alyson's...can't remember--silly memories)
Just don't give in to the socks with sandals idea...that one still holds true :)
Hap, Hap, Happy belated birthday, Katherine!
Ummmm...did you just use the words absolutely breathtaking when referring to an Odyssey or Sienna? I mean, I know they are huge improvements upon the early versions of the minivan...but absolutely breathtaking??? That's pushing it.
Katherine, I was probably with you on your birthday and didn't even realize it! I'm sorry and Happy belated birthday--I love the previous post of " Persephone's Show"...Classic. It was a day to remember:)
