Okay, I did find something

Okay, I did have something to share on my camera after all.  On Thursday I went to the mall to experience the quintessential stay-at-home mommy activity with my friend Marie.  Once again, honesty in this situation is best.  Being a stay-at-homer has its moments of shining glory, but it is mainly lonely (with only one baby) and sometimes a bit boring.  It is only because of this that day-time mall activities (like this one) are even tolerable.  Savannah is a little young for the type of activities that I might find stimulating, so we compromise.  I don't mind the mall, although I am not very comfortable in a mall.  I just can't stand those guys in the middle of the halls that track you down to sell you stuff from their little push-carts!  "Hi ma'am, who is your cell phone carrier?..."  Anyway, one of the malls nearby has a program for kids every Thursday morning.  It is singing and dancing, done by two characters.  One is a smily singing, piano-playing woman, named Persephone (yes, she really played, no minus tracks!) and the other is a very tall animal character that I think is a squirrel, named Dewper.  He resembles an oversized mascot, but wears glasses and overalls to soften the look a little.  (Click here for a little sample of them in the flesh. WARNING: the tune is catchy.)
(I'm still trying to figure out the purpose of the mall security woman who sang every song, including the actions, and escorted Dewper around.  Are the kids going to maul him and steal his head?  Or better yet, that ruler sewn into his front pocket?  I think that is a case of an over-achiever at work.)
I wondered how Savannah would handle the situation, being a little young still.  The minute that Squirrel came out, she was completely mesmerized and could not stop squealing and pointing.  Most other kids were glazed over while their parents swayed to the catchy counting/alphabet tunes.  Not mine.  She danced the whole time, for all the world to see.  She couldn't believe it when the squirrel came right over to give her a high five.  As he approached she gave me a look of elation mixed with shear terror.  The guy just towered over us.  How would you like someone wandering over for a hug that was at least 12 times your size with a head the size of a small planet?  Quite frankly, I think we are nearly ready for the "Disney experience."
The redeeming factor: getting to spend the morning with my good friend and her darling kids, who Savannah ADORES.  Marie-it really was a one-of-a-kind morning!!!  :)

I love reading your posts - you really should write a book you know. Anyway, I hear ya on the boring at home thing sometimes. I had today off and for the first time in my life wanted to actually open my laptop and work (doing it part time from home until I just give up). Yesterday I was going so crazy that I grabbed Spencer and headed out the door. Good thing there were some kids practicing football at the park down the street. Something else to look at! I need one of the mall ... things.

Savanah is too cute. I've decided that girls will be girls, and boys will be boys. I really hope that Ashlyn will have a cute outgoing personality like Savanah and Pacee have.
