Mulch Day

Gardening in Virginia is so much fun because EVERYTHING grows here. When we first moved here my Mom helped me plant a few starts that I had received from a friend. One was just a stick she had cut off her bush. My mom and I were both VERY skeptical of the stick ever producing anything. Today that stick is a 7 foot hibiscus bush. Amazing. So the bad side of easy growing is that weeds also flourish. Overnight the garden beds seem to fill up with weeds that you could swear you pulled out yesterday. So, to help fend off the weeds, people here lay hardwood mulch in their garden beds to keep the weeds down.
Saturday was mulch day at our house. Friday morning a large dump truck arrived at our house with a huge load of mulch. We spent the whole day Saturday outside getting it spread in all of the garden beds. I LOVE mulch! It is so dark and pretty and it smells great too. Trevor did all of the heavy lifting and shoveling and I just did the spreading. The weather was great and we got it all done. Here is a current pic of our little house.
Spring in Virginia is AWESOME!! The garden beds are just starting to come up and fill in. The azaleas are in full bloom, which I love, and the peonies (my favorite) are just about to pop. I am so looking forward to gardening this summer when I am not pregnant any more! Secretly on Saturday I was hoping that my work would put me into labor! No such luck! Maybe next week, but I'm not planning on it.

Katherine the house and yard look great. I can't believe how much the front bed has filled in since I last saw it. I love the azaleas!

I am pretty sure you two have the best yard on the block! Did you paint the window shutters? It all looks great!

Your yard looks so beautiful. It is all so GREEN! We don't have any leaves on the trees at all yet. Your flowers and beautiful and the lawn should win some sort of award. Can I hop on a plane and come down for a picnic in your back yard?
